Quotebook – Week 2 - Tuesday Media Availability

Sterling Griffin
-- “We’ve been watching film and trying to see where Nevada has weaknesses. It’s going to be a long flight and they’re a heck of a team”.
-- “Last year they played a lot of Press-Man coverage on the outside, when they played Cal last week, they were in mostly Zone Cover-4 coverage with the corners playing a little bit off the line of scrimmage”.
-- “We’re going to have to adjust to any type of coverage and exploit their deficiencies”.
-- On Derek’s TD “Ahhh man, it felt like I had just scored my first touchdown all over again. We’ve been calling that play all last week in practice and he’s been open as well as catching the pass. I WAS UP! When he caught that ball I was so excited I just ran out onto the field to congratulate him”.
Kayvon Webster
-- “Nevada has a nice quarterback, very speedy. The receivers catch well and their line blocks soundly. It’s going to be a good game”.
-- On the CBs not missing any tackles “I gives us a good thing to build on…we just need to be more focused and pay attention to their receiver’s routes”.
-- “It’s very important for me to keep my body healthy and stay in great shape as I’m on the starting defense and every special teams unit…I like being back there at KR…it reminds me of being a senior in high school again”.
BJ Daniels
-- “I’ve never been to the west coast so I can’t comment on my expectations about playing in Nevada. Everybody tells us about the altitude and it’s going to be a long flight. The only thing I’ve been thinking about is sleeping on the plane and deal with being cramped up for a while”.
-- On Nevada’s defense “They’re very athletic…their corners and safeties are very physical and they’re going to test our skill guys on who can be more physical. We’ll see who wants it more when the ball is in the air and I feel our guys can compete”.
-- On turnovers “When you get blindsided, you can’t expect that but I still need to prepare for it. I take a mental note of the TOs and will cut down on those decisions, but I don’t dwell on them because that’s when you mess up for real”.
-- On Nevada’s East Coast exposure “They don’t get a lot of TV attention down here, but I’ve known of them ever since they beat Boise State a couple of years ago. They had a Quarterback go to the NFL (Colin Kaepernick, Alex Smith’s backup in SF). They’re really good offensively and can put up yards”.
