Are you sure you want another QB transfer?

  • Disturbing trend among QB's that transfer:

What Happens When Blue-Chip College Quarterbacks Transfer? - The Triangle Blog - Grantland

Theres no shame in transferring from one college to another. There is, however, usually lots of shame behind that decision. You know how this t

  • Give it a read and then ask the question....is it the college choice that caused them to fail or is it their own mindset?

  • I had a feeling Forcier would flame out when he was being recruited

  • The question is will it be a better deal than what we had. In the case of UCF . I say it worked out for them. Our QB situation is so thin that you would have to assume that we have nothing to lose in getting a transfer in.

  • But there were some non blue chippers that did pretty well ,like the senior grad Wilson from NCState and the great one that left USF because he was third string behind Grothe and BJ, only to replace Josh Freeman at K State.

Grant took them to their best record in years. Maybe that was more of a sign of how bad the dream could coach, or how questionable Josh is.

Phillip Eli can not help us on the field next year but, what would do for recruiting Plant.

Uhhh I definitely considered Wilson a blue chipper by the time he was a graduate transfer. So did most everyone else. Remember the insane attention he was getting when deciding where he'd transfer to? Crazy. that went on halfway through season too. There is no Russell Wilson coming to USF..

  • I guess I meant a high school blue chipper.

By the time he transfered he had proven himself in college. The guys in the report were big in high school.

  • Love the article. Grantland always makes me laugh while making their points.

Exactly, at this stage, the risk is absolutely worth it.

How did it work out for UCF? Bortles is their starter and before that Godfrey. Both signed with them out of HS.

As for nothing to lose. I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't say there's nothing to lose exactly. There's an important scholarship on the line. You run the more likely risk of having yet another mediocre backup QB on the roster. A scholarship that could have instead have gone to a HS QB. That's in the case of a guy like Ely. A graduate transfer is a different situation. No matter what it's highly likely USF is going to be hurting bad at QB this year and next.. IMO the focus should he on finding something through running game and the QB who will make the fewest mistakes/TOs is who should get the starting job. I'm not in favor of a transfer QB. Especially if they aren't on the team during spring practice to learn the offense. Just my thoughts.

  • Personally, I think Ely would be a major get. This is a kid just looking for a legitimate chance to play/start. It's not like he was ever this overrated five star that seemed to burn bridges every where he went. The kid has what, three national championship rings, has been coached by an elite coach, and knows what it takes to win. Ely seems to be a different kind of transfer than we usually get (grades/drugs).
