  • you know Dinovo at #13 is utter BS. If this is truly a list of college potential, and HS talent he's not the #13 player in the area. Good solid QB in HS, but he's hardly the reason of his team's surge, its been the amazing flow of athletes to East Lake. At best I see him in the top 30's, he's really done nothing THAT SPECIAL at QB in his HS career to have such lofty ranking....and athletically isn't that special. His biggest claim to fame is the documented jilting of USF. The rest seems carefully analyzed and fine.

BTW, when did Nigel Harris stop being a target?

    bullpride

  • Nigel is offered, just added it.

This is a list of HIGH SCHOOL talent, not put together the same way as we or the other recruiting services do it. If you look at his production on the high school level it's through the roof. He ran circles around UM QB commit Gray Crow last year and has the potential to put up 3,000 yards and 20+ TD's this year.

He threw for 2,400 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior. I think he's the best HS QB in the area.

  • I agree with Josh.

Yeah, this isn't a recruiting list, or a list based on college potential or offers. Though I did run it by some respected recruiting analysts ***coughcoughJoshcoughNewbergcoughcough*** for their input.

It's almost like a fantasy football ranking, if you will. Though in that scenario, DiNovo wouldn't last until 13.

  • Say what ever you want about Pete, but he is going to put up historic passing numbers for Pinellas County this year.

ha, saying he's the best QB in the area is not saying a lot today. There is no Murray around here these days.

Funny, based on those stats, if it's just HS stats then why isn't he #1?

No SPT is confusing the issues here, they like to suggest it's about HS production yet easily, and obviously allow recruiting, and future talent creep into their ranking.

I mean come on, if this was simply HS production Robert Davis is the #1 player in the area! Come on Josh, you know me better then this, can't BS a BS'er. Robert Davis, the kid that's run a 4.3, the kid that has rushed for over 3,500 yards and caught over 500 yards and scored nearly 60 TD's for Carrollwood Day School.

If we're talking production why is Robert #20? Because it's also partially about recruiting, it's the same damn reason Vernon Hargreaves is #1. He barely caught any passes, or ran the ball on his team, and he played corner mostly, and his team finished 5-6. Why is Hargreaves #1? Robert Davis is clearly more impactful for his team....because this list is about recruiting, and which is why Dinovo should not be #13. Or SPT should stop kidding themselves.

There are other examples on that list like this which illustrate clearly this is not solely about HS production.

Yes but if you gave someone like Litton or McGough; Abraham, Scott and Campbell and throw in Cole protecting the blind side, they would put up better numbers than Dinovo in the same offense.

Honestly, I wouldn't argue if DiNovo was number 1.

But I also understand why Hargreaves is #1. Go watch him. He is a GAME CHANGER from so many different positions. So many times I go to a game to watch a supposed "Superstar", only to see him make a play or two. Hargreaves makes plays all over the field, INT's, tackles, FF, blocked field goals...then they put him in on offense when they need a play and guess what, he makes it!

I've watched him play Josh. Hargreaves is so clearly the best corner I've seen in a while it isn't funny, but his team went 5-6, and teams never threw to him because of how dangerous he was...if it's JUST High School production, as you suggest, then the list should start with Robert Davis, then move to a few others, and DiNovo could be in the top 5....but it's not. It's obvious it's not. Which is why Hargreaves is #1, he's the most outstanding player at his position, at any position in the area, but clearly not the most impactful to his team. The stats do not back up your claim, or the SPT.

    bullpride

  • If anyone watched Friday Night Lights, Pete Dinovo is Matt Saracen.

Now for the rest of the list Gibson and Abraham are way too low. They will both be in the top ten next year.

    BullTruth

  • It's not my list! shrug

Yeah, if it was my list I would definitely make some changes. I tried to let Cotey hand over the keys to the list but he wouldn't let me!!

Now if you want to argue the Top247 lets go! ninja

  • Just to throw this in for good measure to illustrate this is about recruiting, and not production why is Matt Breita #38, and Xavier Johnson #25. Top 3 returning rushers in the entire area, they play both ways, and are one man wrecking crews for their teams. If it's strictly production then those guys are easily top 20 kids.shrug

Like I said I can go all day long on this...biggrin

I know it's not your list. I was just citing that based on recruiting, which the list clearly is, DiNovo is a tad high. If it was on production then he's a tad low. It has nothing to do with UCF, he was just the first example of many.

I would like to hear your list though....but given our debate I get this sneaky feeling you'll try to slide in DiNovo just to get my goat.ninja

  • Pride, I would guess that it is 70% recruiting, 30% production and weighted more towards the senior class.

sounds about right, and it reads that way too. It's a good list, Josh asked about it and I gave some thoughts. List are subjective opinions, everyone has one, and are great for debate and to get people talking. SPT did a good job, I just have a different opinion about a few things.
