USF still in it for Norland duo?

Bulls247 spoke with USF targets Ereck Flowers and Keith Brown of Miami Norland about where South Florida stands.

  • Yea, you have to think USF is out of it for Brown.

  • More swings and misses this year.

Larry Scott sure has lost his mojo in south Florida. If not for Coach Shank's Oline haul last year and Coach Phil's haul this year, we would be screwed.

  • Its amazing to me that Miami can have a bad season, be facing unprecedented NCAA sanctions, have no fan base to speak of....and still out recruit us. Are they still paying kids and buying them prostitutes or something?

Prostitutes? Hey, you should be thanking us for our economic stimulus package. We are able to employ the USF grads somehow.

  • Oh here come the Canes fans (AKA people who did not graduate from college or have any affiliation what so ever to the University of Miami but feel the need to bash other people's alma maters despite not having one of their own).

    Awesome.

Exactly... It's the Jersey Shore of college football.... 98% of UM fans have no affiliation with the school and live off some ragged attitude from 20 years ago... when most of them were in elementary school... It's quite sad reallly

Check your math, I don't believe 2001 was 20-years ago.

Actually I did so what do you have to say now? Class of 2010! Didn't you guys just start up a football program? You guys are like the JV of college football in the state of Florida alone! You guys win in south bend and now you feel like you can talk! Thats laughable!

South Bend, Tallahassee, Auburn, Miami, Clemson, Morgantown, etc.

You act like we have one big win or something. Our defense kicked the shit out of your team all day at Ray Jay this year too.

You have a long way to go before you can even start talking that crap. A few wins, and now your program is on par with UM's history?

Never had any ill thoughts for USF, but if that is your stance, not sure what to think about you and anyone else who feels the same.

Don't spew malarchy like this because your school's tradition isn't built yet, and the lack of it does not net you the recruits you'd like.

  • The fact is USF is still a baby team.

The other fact is they beat UM last year.

Another fact is, they played UM streight up this year until they hurt our QB again.

Another fact is this may be the best year UM will have in a while once they get punished for their cheating, again.

Another fact is, it's sad when people don't know when the party is over.

It's like watching your grandfather going to a hot spot and try to be cool. The whole world is watching, and it's sad.

  • Where did anyone compare history? I said its hard to believe UM is winning recruiting battles when they are coming off a bad year and are about to face major NCAA sanctions. That's it. Who cares about tradition? If you want to go that route schools like Pitt and Syracuse would put up their nose to Miami who have only been relevant for 20-30 years. Heck Rutgers played in the first college football game ever played. Talk about tradition. We are a brand new program that has risen amazingly fast, but has never even won a conference title. I certainly would never bring tradition into an argument for our program. We have none.

Correct, that's why you guys don't have the pull yet. UM has more National Championships in the last 30 years than anyone right now. That's most of our lifetime, and a part of these recruits. The desire to put UM back together does not seem to go away.

As far as sanctions, if you look at them objectively, they probably won't be as bad as you or anyone thinks. What's been proven, UM has been punished for so far.

Truth is, if UM and FSU get back to what they were 10 years ago, college football would benefit greatly because of it. It would also mean more for USF when you you guys play us. There isn't much to be upset about, Sam Barrington and Kayvon Webster choose you guys.

Gotta say DHucks had me laughing like hell when he compared USF to Jan from the Brady Bunch...and her envy of Marsha.

I am a Bulls fan(and long ago graduate) and that just about sums up USF in a nutshell. It's not a problem, it's just what we've had to endure trying to play catch-up.

With that being said anyone that knows our newness has to marvel at our accelerated step-ups, and ability to compete with the best this early in our existence. Remember, UCF had a 20 year head start on us in football and we're already ahead.

    Just sayin boys!

30 years is a long time for the facebook generation, read even shorter attention spans than my MTV generation. To be truthful when talking about recruits, and the effect your record has, you probably should look at a much shorter span of perhaps 4-5 years. The time that they are actually getting fully involved in football the time when these kids are actually starting topay attention to the games and the tradition.

Unfortunately for Miami they have started to become less and less relevant especially since they left the Big East. The mighty ACC schedule appears to have been a bit to rough for them.

The funny thing about most Miami fans is that they still hold on to this belief that they are a formidable program. Miami may still get some great recruiting classes but all those classes do is help the argument that stars don't mean all that much in the grand scheme of things. A perfect example would be your #1 rated class of 2008. Your #7 ranked class of 2009. Your #13 ranked class of 2010. Your unranked class of 2011... is there a trend here as well?

    Final rankings? 2008 - unranked. 2009 - 15. 2010 - unranked. 2011 - unranked.

For fans that declare themselves a powerhouse, or even a nationally relevant program, thats pretty uninspiring. Miami has a storied history, that much is true, however the present is embarassing to the past.
